Our client wanted her living room to breathe like a bright, serene library. With ceilings spanning more than 14ft, we had ample space to play with height and textures.

Instead of your typical floor-to-ceiling built-in shelf that could risk looking bulky, we opted for a mounted shelf and a sideboard that were modern, bold, and sophisticated. To soften the look and the whimsical touch, we installed the Montfort Graphite wallpaper designed by Sara Bergqvist, to help highlight its moment in the room.

For the walk-in closet, we kept it streamlined and chic. We carried the same walnut wood finishes from the bedroom and applied it to the millwork of the open clothing racks to maintain a throughline across the rooms.

The open racks are two pieces, made to look like one large piece. Long dresses, shirts, intimates, are all designed to meet beautifully, our client’s bespoke needs.

A relaxing sanctuary is what we were going for with the bedroom. Our client's only request was that we incorporate a Cy Twombly print. Because the print was light, airy, and playful, we grounded its lightness by opting for silhouettes that leaned more mid-century modern and timeless like the Irrawaddy Bed and the Shamoho Shan nightstands.

To top it off, we wallpapered the backdrop of the bed with an ever so subtle narrow-striped linen wallpaper that is colored in a soft, light off-pink, exuding a delicate charm. From a distance, the slender stripes blend seamlessly to create an almost monochromatic, soothing effect.

To complement the soft hues from the cotton material from the window treatment, we selected a handwoven flatweave rug with a similar hue that had textural interest.

Incorporating high quality, natural materials in our designs is our core ethos at 16’96 Interiors. Behind the aesthetic and form, it is paramount to us that the pieces are functional, durable, and have a connection to nature.

Because the seating pieces that we selected from 16’96 Concepts, were predominantly organic and voluptuous, we wanted the centerpiece to be sculptural and architectural for that striking juxtaposition. The Longan Marble Coffee Table possessed the exact textural, luxurious, natural integrity we were seeking.

For high contrast, we carefully selected accent pieces like the Feijoa Side Table and the standing reading lamp, to be finished in black. We placed transition colors like cedar browns, soft maroons, and warm taupes in pieces like the Yone Baday Sofa, the flatweave handwoven rug from Nordic Knots, and the handloomed pillows from Pakkoku Myanmar.

To maximize the use of space, we transformed this narrow hallway into a workspace. Unlike the living and dining areas, where we enjoy tall ceilings, we needed to create the illusion of height here.

We designed oversized idea boards to help elongate the look of taller room. It helped incorporate texture and depth and allows our client to personalize it.

Our client is an aficionado for contemporary furniture designs, and she wanted her vanity table to reflect just that.

We used a cotton material that we exclusively sourced for this project’s window treatment. The material was hand-loomed in Inlay, Myanmar — super soft and wash-friendly, the material filters maximum light, without it being completely see-through so that privacy can be safeguarded.

Not only was the aesthetic achieved from the multitude of discussions had with the client, but we had the ultimate creative freedom unique to this project that empowered us to incorporate our design principles throughout the entire design & build journey.

We've seen too many white kitchens, so much so that we went with a completely black palette. Black timber blinds married with black wooden veneer cabinetry sets the tone for the perfect setting for our white-washed oak dining chairs and table. The result is a bold, modern, clean look.

The mix use of two different woods, Parawood and Yamanay respectively, enabled us to enjoy two different wood grains that complemented each other — one wild and unpredictable, the latter calm and elegant.
